Safety
Suicide and Self-Harm Protocol
Version 1.0 · Effective October 11, 2026
This protocol explains how AuraLift Ai responds when a conversation shows signs of suicide, self-harm, or a threat to someone else: what we look for, what happens next, the resources we show, and who is contacted.
If you are in danger right now, call or text 988, or call 911.
1. What we look for, and how
Crisis detection is automated pattern matching that runs on every message. It looks for four kinds of signal: passive thoughts of death or not wanting to be here; active thoughts of suicide or self-harm; a plan, intent, or means; and a threat to harm someone else.
When a match suggests a threat to someone else, an AI model (Anthropic’s Claude) reviews the flagged message in the context of the conversation to decide how LAura responds.
2. What happens at each level
- Passive thoughts. LAura’s reply, in that same message, lists the crisis resources in Section 3. Other topics are not paused, and the conversation can continue.
- Active thoughts of suicide or self-harm. The same reply, and other topics are paused so the conversation can stay with your safety.
- A plan, intent, or means. The same reply, and your account enters a restricted mode in which the conversation stays on your safety only. Restricted mode ends on its own after a set period. A message about harming yourself never leads to an account hold.
- A threat to someone else. The AI review described in Section 1 decides the response. Only when it judges the threat genuine, with high confidence, is your account paused for safety review. A paused account is not deleted. In the web app, the paused-account screen shows support@auraliftai.com and a reminder to call or text 988. Otherwise, LAura’s reply lists the crisis resources in Section 3, and depending on the review, the conversation continues or restricted mode applies.
3. The resources we show
The crisis reply is written in the language your account is set to. In English, it lists:
- 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline: Call or text 988
- Crisis Text Line: Text HOME to 741741
- Emergency Services: Call 911
- SAMHSA National Helpline: Call 1-800-662-4357
In other languages, it lists fewer:
- Spanish: the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline (Call or text 988; press 2 when you call for Spanish) and Emergency Services (911).
- French, German, and Arabic: the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline (Call or text 988; in the United States), Find A Helpline (findahelpline.com) for a line in your language or country, and Emergency Services (911).
Replies in these languages do not list the Crisis Text Line or the SAMHSA National Helpline.
The reply also links to a support page with more ways to reach help, including 988 Lifeline Chat and the Veterans Crisis Line.
4. Who is contacted
No person watches conversations as they happen. If you have connected a clinician to your AuraLift account and that connection is active, that clinician receives a crisis alert when the response to a message pauses other topics, starts restricted mode, or pauses the account. No one else is contacted on your behalf, and AuraLift does not call emergency services for you.
5. Your location
Crisis detection does not use your location. If you use the AuraLift web app from outside the United States, the crisis resources it shows may add lines for your country, based on the country your internet connection appears to come from. This uses the country only, not where you are within it.
6. If we got it wrong
If you think a message was flagged by mistake, or your account was paused in error, email support@auraliftai.com, the same address the paused-account screen shows.
7. Who this is for
AuraLift may not be suitable for some minors. It is for adults 18 and older.
